Unidentified person(s) broke into a house at Walhekarwadi in Chinchwad when the owner went to perform his father¡¯s last rites and stole valuables worth Rs 2.19 lakh. The burglary came to light on Monday when he returned home.
An officer from the Chinchwad police said the complainant, Baburao Bhaskar Darade (42), and his family went to their native place on October 3 as his father had passed away.
¡°After performing the last rites, Darade returned home on Monday and found the main door¡¯s lock was broken,¡± the officer said, adding the suspects made off with an LED television set and gold ornaments.

¡°We suspect the theft occurred between 8pm on Sunday and 5.30am on Monday as the neighbours had noticed that the door was locked on Sunday night,¡± the officer said.
In another incident, Punaram Chaudhary, owner of a grocery store in Kothrud, lodged a complaint with the local police stating unidentified persons broke into his shop and stole grocery and a nose ring collectively worth Rs 1 lakh, in the early hours of Tuesday.
Burglars also broke into a flat in Amanora Township in Hadapsar and stole ornaments worth Rs 4.20 lakh, between August 26 and September 14. The flat owner Prabir Pal (64) lodged a complaint with the Hadapsar police on Tuesday.
