Calvin Klein Perfume 'Obsession For Men' Will Help Save A Tigress' Life In Telangana Forests

If you were told that Calvin Klein¡¯s Perfume can save a big cat from dying, you wouldn't believe it. But it¡¯s true as the life of tigress K4 depends on whether the Telangana Forest Department want to use Calvin Klein¡¯s perfume, Obsession For Men. This perfume is used world over to attract the big cats and the forest department now mulls its use to lure and restrict the big cat to a small area. The committee made for monitoring K4¡¯s rescue has instructed the use of this perfume.

The tigress K4 has been living with a poacher¡¯s wire snare that constricted its abdomen for nearly a year and defying all odds, the tigress grew and now it¡¯s reaching three years in age which makes her ready to find a partner to mate. But if she gets pregnant, the wire can be fatal for her.

¡°If it gets pregnant, we have no idea what can happen to it,¡± a senior wildlife officer said.

The official told Telangana Today that the department now trying to contain K4¡¯s movement in a restrict area and the rescue work will start from October 1. ¡°We will ensure adequate prey for the tigress. After the rains, there is a lot of undergrowth. We have to find proper locations where the tiger can be monitored after it makes a kill. And we also have to ensure that there is enough visibility to track it after tranquilizing as it takes a few minutes for the drugs to take effect,¡± the officer said.

However, the officials of the forest department are sure on using the perfume as recommended by the committee. ¡°It was discussed in the meetings. Our focus is on restricting its movements,¡± the official said.

¡°This is precisely what the perfume should be used for,¡± said Dr HS Prayag, a wildlife veterinarian from Karnataka told Telangana Today. Dr Prayag was until recently part of the monitoring committee for K4¡¯s rescue before he was dropped from it by the forest department for ¡®administrative¡¯ reasons.

¡°The idea is to use the perfume to keep the tigress from going away from a given area so a serious attempt can be made to tranquillise it,¡± he said. ¡°But they must make sure it is the original perfume. There are a lot of fakes in the market,¡± he warned.

Dr Prayag said ¡®Obsession For Men¡¯ has been successfully field tested in India too. ¡°I used it to lure and capture an extremely camera-trap shy leopard that eluded all attempts to capture it for two years in Mandya district of Karnataka. We also used it to localise a man-eating tiger in Guduluru of Tamil Nadu which was then shot as per orders,¡± he said.
