Rs 1 Lakh Cash Award For Information On Deep Sidhu, Others Absconding After R-Day Violence

Delhi Police has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for information that can lead to the arrest of actor Deep Sidhu and three others in connection with the Red Fort incident in Delhi on Republic Day.

Cash reward of Rs 50,000 each was also announced for Buta Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Jajbir Singh and Iqbal Singh for allegedly instigating protesters, police said.

Cash reward on 4 persons

The reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced on Sidhu, Jugraj Singh, Gurjot Singh and Gurjant Singh who hoisted flags at the Red Fort or involved in the act, according to police.

"On January 26 some people hoisted the flag at Red Fort. Some of them have been identified out of which Deep Sidhu is the prime accused to be arrested. We have also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each on them. We will arrest them soon," said Praveer Ranjan, Special Commissioner of Police (CP), Crime.

"A few other people have also been identified who indulged in the violence on January 26 and they provoked others as well. A reward of Rs 50,000 has been announced on them," he added.

44 cases registered

Ranjan informed that 44 cases were registered in connection with the Republic Day violence out of which 14 important cases were reported to the Crime Branch and an investigation team has been formed to look into the case.

"Probe is underway into the matter how farmer leaders changed their stand on that day and broke from the agreed route for the tractor rally. A scientific probe is underway. We are also analysing video footage," said Ranjan.

"We didn't succeed in arresting Deep Sidhu, we are still looking for him and he will be arrested soon. We are collecting evidence and action will be taken against the people behind this violence," he added.

Sidhu defending himself

Actor Sidhu who has been a prominent face among the protesters for a long time has been missing ever since the incidents that unfolded in Red Fort on January 26.

Since then Sidhu has appeared on several Facebook live videos, defending himself.

The actor-turned-activist has repeatedly claimed that he did not instigate the crowd and that the Indian flag was never disrespected.

In a 15 minute-long video message on January 31, titled 'straight from my soul' on his verified Facebook page, he is seen giving an emotional statement: "Despite leaving my whole life behind, I came to join the Punjabis in their protest. But nobody saw anything but I was labelled a traitor.

"All I did was raise a voice for your rights. For so many months, I've been meeting everyone on roads, in tents. Now a single man is being made a traitor," he was heard saying.
