Delhi's Air Quality May Dip To 'Poor' In Next 2 Days; Stubble Burning, Economy Reopening Causes

AQI may spike to 250 by this week
Delhi recorded an air high quality index of 154 at 12 noon on Wednesday. With stubble burning cases and reopening of economy only adding to the city's air pollution spike, the AQI on Friday is likely to go up to 216 and day after on Saturday, it is likely to be around 250 as per Delhi Air Quality Forecast.
An AQI between zero and 50 is taken into account ¡®good¡¯, 51 and 100 ¡®passable¡¯, 101 and 200 ¡®reasonable¡¯, 201 and 300 ¡®poor¡¯, 301 and 400 ¡®very poor¡¯, and 401 and 500 ¡®extreme¡¯.
Late monsoon, lesser winds adds to pollution
Favourable ventilation condition is likely to keep Delhi's AQI in the moderate category on Thursday, the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) said.
"Further deterioration and the higher end of moderate to lower end of the poor category due to delayed monsoon and stagnant wind is likely by 2nd October. An increase in stubble burning fires observed yesterday around Punjab, Haryana, and neighboring border regions; only marginal impact are expected for Delhi in the next two days," SAFAR said.
On its website, the govt agency also said," Consider reducing prolonged or heavy extertion. Take it easy if symptoms of cough or shortness ofbreath occurs."
