Rs 1.5 Cr Fines Collected In Delhi So Far For Not Wearing Masks As People Continue To Defy Rule
Within four days of implementing a fine of Rs 2,000 for violation of Covid protocols like wearing a mask in public, the Delhi Police has collected nearly Rs 1.5 crore as challans. According to the data shared by the Delhi Police, a total 7,655 challans have been issued from November 20 to date.
The COVID-19 situation in Delhi continues to remain grim and is likely to remain the same for the near future.
In the past 24 hours on Monday, the national capital saw 4454 new cases and 121 COVID-19 deaths.

This is the sixth time in the last 12 days that the daily number of deaths has crossed the 100-mark.
While several reasons have been blamed for the recent spike, one very prominent and the most concerning is how people of Delhi have ignored the COVID-19 safety guidelines and are violating them, in public places.

Ever since the first wave of COVID-19 slowed down in Delhi, people were seen acting like the pandemic is over and there is no need to follow social distancing and wear a mask anymore.
The crowding at public places and people not wearing masks had reached so bad that the Delhi Government was forced to increase the fine for such violations to Rs 2,000 from the previous Rs 500.
People still not taking COVID seriously
Still, it seems like people are happy to pay the fine than wear a mask in public.

According to the data shared by the Delhi Police, a total 7,655 challans have been issued from November 20 to date.
Of which, only four challans have been issued against spitting, 218 for violating social distancing and the highest challans have been issued for not wearing masks 5,388.

Over 1,500 people who were found not wearing a face mask at public places were issued challans across the national capital on Sunday, the police said.
According to the police, 1,501 challans were issued to people for not wearing a face mask while 33 people were fined for not adhering to social distancing norms.
This however dropped to 410 on Monday.
A total 5,44,880 challans have been issued in the national capital since June 15, they said.
Out of this, 5,05,560 were issued for mask violation, 3,382 for spitting and 35,985 for social distancing violation.
