Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani Was Killed in Just 4 Minutes, Could Fire Only 2 Rounds Of Bullets On Forces

Slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, whose elimination has caused unrest in Kashmir and kept the entire Valley is under curfew for the past one week, was neutralised by the security forces along with two other militants in just four minutes.

The trio could reportedly fire only two rounds of bullets at the Special Operation Group (SOG) comprising 19 Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu & Kashmir Police.

Burhan was in the cross heirs of the Army for the past three months and the operation to catch alive or shoot him dead began on July 7. The three militants were killed at between 4 and 4.30 pm the same day at Kokernag's Bundoroo village in Anantnag district where the HM commander accompanying two others had gone to procure arms and ammunition from few individuals, suspected to be over-ground workers (OGWs) associated with the HM.

The J&K Police reportedly came to know about Burhan¡¯s movement and the expected delivery of the arms consignments after it arrested the suspected OGWs from Awantipora area of South Kashmir on the basis of intelligence inputs. The arrest led to a series of a series of arrests the same day in South Kashmir after their phone calls were intercepted and analysed.

A gun battle started once Burhan and his two accomplices were spotted outside a mosque in Bundoroo village which was already cordoned off by the SOG. Burhan, who joined militancy at the age of 15 after his brother was allegedly killed by the security forces in 2010, started ¡°crying and shouting seeing his end near¡± after he was surrounded by the SOG sleuths, reports Defence India News.

Before joining militancy, Burhan ¨C who was carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head ¨C was a budding cricketer. He was the icon of new-age militancy in the Valley. Off late, he had become a household name there. He aggressively used social media to his advantage and his posts radicalised and inspired educated Kashmiri youth to join his ranks.

Burhan¡¯s killing triggered tension in several parts of the Valley. At least 36 people, a policeman, have so far lost their lives and 3,100, including 1,500 security personnel, have suffered injuries in the ongoing violent protests against security forces erupted after the 22-year-old HM commander¡¯s killing.

Curfew Imposed in All 10 Districts of Kashmir

In view of Friday prayers which generally witness large congregations and stone pelting, curfew has been clamped in all the 10 districts of Kashmir valley today as a precautionary measure for maintaining law and order.

The decision to impose curfew was taken as there were apprehensions that vested interests might exploit the large gatherings at Friday prayers to instigate fresh violence, reports TOI.

Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in strength across the valley for strict implementation of the prohibitory orders.

Mobile and internet services continued to be suspended in the valley for the seventh consecutive day in order to prevent any rumour-mongering. Only post-paid connections of BSNL are working. Trains are also off the tracks in the Valley.

Violent protests rocked Kashmir last weekend following killing of Burhan Wani and two of his associated in an encounter with security forces on July 8 in Kokernag area of Anantnag district.

Normal life has remained paralysed since Saturday in Kashmir on account of separatist sponsored-strike and curfew-like restrictions imposed by authorities.

The separatists groups ¡ª both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF ¡ª have been issuing strike calls two days at a time, as they did during the 2010 summer agitation which left 120 people dead.
