'Drugs Lab' Operating In Greater Noida House Busted In 'Biggest MDMA' Haul By UP Police
A total of nine people, eight Nigerians and one person from Senegal, were arrested. 46kg of methamphetamine (MDMA) - estimated to be worth Rs 200 crore in the international market. Chemicals that were to be used to produce synthetic drugs worth another Rs 100 crore were also recovered from the house.
Noida Police on Wednesday busted a sophisticated 'drug lab' that was being operated by a group of foreign nationals in a house in Greater Noida.
A total of nine people, eight Nigerians and one person from Senegal, were arrested from a rented three-storey house in Theta II in Greater Noida with 46kg of methamphetamine (MDMA) - estimated to be worth Rs 200 crore in the international market.
Biggest MDMA haul
Chemicals that were to be used to produce synthetic drugs worth another Rs 100 crore were also recovered from the house.
This is said to be the biggest-ever MDMA haul by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
Police said they had been pursuing the gang, which was involved in the supply of MDMA in the entire Delhi-NCR, for some months now.
"The police had been getting inputs of such a syndicate of synthetic drugs spreading its tentacles in Greater Noida and Noida. Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh had clear directions for the department to ensure crackdown on illegal drugs and cannabis," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan said.
How the gang was caught
The process involved working on manual intelligence and a network of police informers, he said.
"The police team had trapped two of the accused into fixing a deal for the supply of the synthetic drugs. The duo was held near Dadha roundabout in Greater Noida when they were in a Toyota Etios car.
"These two men, who were found in possession of 5.50 kg MDMA, then led the police team to the three-storeyed house where their other partners had set up the laboratory to cook meth in large amount," Khan added.
Like Narcos and Breaking Bad
The seven persons who were found inside the house, which had a green mesh around it, had high-quality masks on their face, he said.
"There was intense intoxicating smell inside the compound and they were caught cooking the MDMA in a sophisticated setup with a large quantity of raw material kept on the floor. Some of them even tried to jump off the building in order to escape arrest," he said.
"It resembled what we have seen in web series like 'Narcos' and 'Breaking Bad'," the officer said.

Police are also looking into how the gang was able to rent the house and if they were staying in the country illegally.
According to the police so far, in 2023, in the Greater Noida region alone, the police have seized around 1,800 kg of illegal drugs, including cannabis.
