The 28-year-old suspect, Swapnil Bhosle, then slammed his Honda Accord into three parked vehicles, and local residents pulled him out of his wrecked car, whose windshield was smashed in the highspeed accident.
Witnesses claim he was so drunk that he could barely stand and instead of showing concern for the five injured, he abused and threatened people at the scene in Kalyan's Indira Nagar locality. Bhosle allegedly even blamed the crash victims, one of whom was left with broken legs.

Bhosle, a Kalyan resident, was later arrested and his blood was drawn at a public hospital for an alcohol test. Inspector BG Roham of the MFC police station said a pre liminary medical test suggested Bhosle had been driving under the influence.

Baby Gathe, a 45-year-old housewife, suffered the worst injuries in Sunday night's accident. She was wheeled into Vatsalya Hospital with multiple fractures on her legs and underwent two surgeries during which doctors inserted a metal rod in one of her limbs.
Family members said Gathe had just stepped out of the house to buy fish when she heard someone scream on the road. The next moment, she was struck by Bhosle's speeding Honda.
"I ran out of the house when I learned some drunk driver had injured many people in our locality.I went to the spot and saw the driver, who was completely sloshed and could not even stand without assistance," said Gathe's son, Nilesh.
"He was abusing and threatening people.Someone then informed me that my mother was among the injured and had been rushed to a hospital."

Sultan Hussain, who runs a small shop in Indira Nagar, was also knocked down by Bhosle's car.
"I was walking on the side of the road when I was hit. I landed on a cart," Hussain said.
He suffered minor injuries to his head, hands and legs.
Another victim, Azhar Khan, who works with a private firm in Thane, suffered fractures and is receiving treatment at a private hospital.
Local resident Feroz Khan said people's screams brought him and others out of their houses.
"We saw people lying injured on the road and a crowd was chasing some vehicle, which didn't stop and continued to speed for 500 metres. It finally crashed into some cars parked near the entrance of Jalaram building," Feroz said.
