DTC Makes Showing ID Cards Mandatory, Delhi Govt Makes E-Pass Available For Emergency Travel
21-day nationwide lockdown kicks in to combat the spread of coronavirus disease Covid-19. Only people involved in essential services will be able to utilise the services. DTC has now made it mandatory for passengers to show identity cards. Police have sealed all border pickets in the national capital.
As 21-day nationwide lockdown kicks in, strict restrictions are in place to stop the unnecessary movement of people and ensure all the prohibitory orders are followed.
With nearly 2,000 Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses plying the roads during the curfew, there have been new limitation in place as to who can use the services.
While Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had announced that DTC buses will work at 25% occupancy, it had seen people crowding the buses on Monday. Now after nationwide lockdown was put in place, only people involved in essential services will be able to utilise the services.
To ensure only those working in essential services are allowed to travel, DTC has now made it mandatory for passengers to show identity cards.
¡°This was necessary as even those who were not involved in essential services were roaming around in buses, putting other passengers and our staff in danger,¡± The Times of India quoted an official from DTC as saying.
In addition, police have sealed all border pickets in the national capital and curfew passes are necessary for people associated with essential services. That includes owners and delivery executives of food companies, and pharmacies.
The strict checks are being conducted using drones to prevent needless movement of people.
According to the order, private organisations in Delhi engaged in essential services will seek curfew passes from the office of the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) of their respective district.
There has now been a change in how people can get the curfew passes issued.
The Delhi government has in the latest move made arrangements for issuing electronic curfew pass, or e-pass, for individuals who may have to travel between the national capital and adjoining satellite towns such as Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad on emergency work during the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
This has been done to avoid the risk of people having to physically go to the offices of deputy commissioners of police and district magistrates and fill up application forms.
