Elephant Who Fell Into Well Rescued After 16 Hrs As Forest Officials Ensure The Jumbo's Safety
The forest officials launched a massive operation jumbo and began the rescue by tranquilising the elephant.
A sub-adult female elephant was rescued after around 16 hours as she fell into a 50-foot dry well in Tamil Nadu¡¯s Dharmapuri.
The elephant, weighing approximately three tons, fell into a dry farm well around 4 am on Thursday at Yelagundur near Panchapalli village in the district.
Venkatachalam, who owns the agricultural land the well sits on, found the animal trapped and informed the police.
The rescue act even attracted the attention of Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change who took to his official Twitter account to share the video of the rescue operation.
Brilliant work by the forest team who rescued a sub adult female elephant after hours of operation, and also supplied food during the operation.

A team of forest officials rushed to the spot and later, lowered a bucket of water and some food for the elephant. The officials then began the process of rescuing the wild animal using two cranes.
The forest officials launched a massive operation jumbo in order to safely rescue the elephant. The officials first tranquilized the elephant. Then, the personnel lowered into the well to tie ropes around the elephant. With the help of a crane, the elephant was lifted from the well.

More than 100 people from nearby villages gathered at the spot to catch a glimpse of the rescue work.
The elephant ventured into the field in search of food before getting trapped in the well at 50 feet.
The calf fell in the well on November 19 and the fire department was working tirelessly since then to get her out of it.
The incident happened in Panchapalli village. Though, it was trapped in the well for around 16 hours, the sub-adult elephant is in good condition.
