When Home Minister Amit Shah, on Monday, announced that Article 370 that gives special status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir has been scrapped, many rejoiced while many remained paranoid for not being able to reach out to their families back in the valley.
While Kashmiris were still trying to cope up with the shock, Indian men from other states went desperate with announcements to marry women from the now Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a video posted on Tik Tok, three men are discussing the benefits of removing Article 370. One says that the tricolour will be waved in Kashmir, second says ¡°Jammu Kashmir ki lugai milegi humein¡± (we will get a wife from Jammu Kashmir). The third man asserts that Kashmir will now be called Kashi and all three chant ¡°Vande Mataram.¡±
It is difficult to ascertain what actually happening in Kashmir due to total communications blackout. The repercussions of the decision are yet unknown but scrolling through social media, it is easier to understand that Indian men are ready with their right to exercise patriarchy and a rather obvious inclination towards misogyny.
A quick glance at social media platforms gives away a clear picture that most men are desperate to assert Hindu supremacy. Men are tweeting that they can now ¡°get girls¡± from Kashmir. Tik Tok, Facebook and Twitter are full of videos and posts that highlight the mentality of Indian men.

Before government¡¯s decision on Monday, there was no bar on marrying Kashmiri men or women. However, under old laws of Kashmir, Kashmiri women who married non-Kashmiris were not entitled to inherit property.
Bharatiya Janata Party member and MLA from Uttar Pradesh¡¯s Khatauli constituency, Vikram Singh Saini, made misogynistic remarks while giving a speech on the scrapping of Jammu & Kashmir¡¯s special status provided under Article 370 of the Constitution.
Saini, while addressing a local gathering, declared, ¡°while giving a speech on the scrapping of Jammu & Kashmir¡¯s special status provided under Article 370 of the Constitution.¡± His statement was met with applause.
The bizarre sense of entitlement in some Indian men is quite apparent now. For them, the law basically means that just like property or land, they can also own women in the now UT.
Trends on Google show how frantically Indian men are searching for ¡°Kashmir girl pic¡± in the past few hours. Searches show that men from all over India are looking for "Kashmiri girls" to marry and want to buy plot/house/property in Kashmir.
The misogynistic posts on social media reek of objectification that women are put through in India. Men are easily and freely equating land with women, revealing that for them owning property and ¡°owning¡± women are the same thing.
The choice for women is silenced and missing.
When Shah made the announcement of scrapping Article 370 in Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised how the law would improve the status of Kashmiri women and empower them.
A user who goes with the name of Good Guy on Twitter, thanked prime minister Narendra Modi because he had ¡°started getting alliances from Kashmiri girls in DM,¡± followed by a heart emoji.

It is distressing how ¡°Kashmiri women¡± and ¡°how to marry Kashmiri women¡± were among the top searches in the country after people got to know that they can buy property in Kashmir after the special status given to the state was revoked.
On one hand are thousands of stranded Kashmiri people, stripped from giving their voice to the matter that matters the most to them and on other hand are people asserting patriarchy in the garb of hyper-nationalism.
For one, it is clear that most Hindu men still reek of patriarchy and a barbaric mindset.
The sick fantasy of owning women is still rife.
