Tata Group's semiconductor plans
Additionally, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said on Wednesday that the Tata Group is close to announcing plans to build a new semiconductor fabrication plant in Gujarat state this year.
Tata Group "is on the verge of concluding and announcing a huge semiconductor fab in Dholera, and we are about to complete this negotiations and start in 2024," Chandrasekaran said.
Why semiconductors matter
The new investments and partnerships are expected to help India take a larger role in the semiconductor industry.
Semiconductors, built on silicon wafers and containing millions of transistors, are an integral part of almost all electronic devices, from mobile phones to smart TVs and cars.
With the world moving towards AI and IoT, semiconductors have become increasingly important.
