Five doctors at the Chamarajanagar district hospital in Karnataka have tested positive for COVID-19 days after taking vaccines against the infection.
According to local media, the five doctors who tested positive for COVID-19 include those who had received Covidshield and Covaxin.
The five medics along with two of their colleagues who had not taken the vaccine yet have tested positive so far.
According to medical officials, among the five doctors who have so far shown mild symptoms, only one of them is admitted to a hospital for treatment.
They also clarified that the doctors testing positive for COVID-19 after taking the vaccine has nothing to do with the efficiency of the jab.
Both Covishiled and Covaxin are two-dose vaccines that are to be taken 28 days apart and the immune system kicks in only after the second jab.
Both the vaccine makers have also made it clear that it will take a couple of weeks after the second dose is administered to make the recipient immune to the virus.

India had kicked off the COVID-19 vaccination campaign on January 16, starting with frontline healthcare workers.
This means that even the first recipients of the vaccine got it a little over two weeks ago and will have to wait for that many more days before they can take the second shot.
Since the vaccination drive started, till Saturday over 37 lakh healthcare workers have been given the jabs against COVID-19.
Of the 37,06,157? beneficiaries, the highest number of people were vaccinated in Uttar Pradesh at 4,63,793 followed by Rajasthan at 3,26,745, Karnataka at 3,15,343, Madhya Pradesh at 2,73,872 and Maharashtra at 2,69,064.
The ministry noted that India is the fastest country to reach not only the one million target but also two million and three million marks in COVID-19 vaccination.
Several other countries that have had a head start, some as much as 40-50 days, have taken a longer time to reach these targets, it said.
