What is the Gaganyaan mission?
India's maiden human space flight initiative, the Gaganyaan mission, is currently undergoing comprehensive preparations across various ISRO centers.
According to ISRO, the Gaganyaan project aims to showcase human spaceflight capabilities by sending a three-member crew to an orbit of 400 km for a three-day mission.
The objective is to safely bring them back to Earth, with a planned landing in the Indian sea waters.
The chosen four astronauts have received training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia.
An estimated Rs 9,023 crore has been invested in the Gaganyaan mission.
In October 2023, ISRO scientists successfully launched a rocket from Sriharikota, carrying payloads associated with crew safety for the Gaganyaan mission. The mission had achieved its objective of Crew Module and Crew Escape separation with precision.
