The much talked about deaf-mute Indian girl Geeta, who was stranded in Pakistan for over 10 years, returned home today. But this tale is not over, it has a twist in it.
Now Geeta does not recognise the people she had earlier identified in photos and claims the family is not hers. She arrived in Delhi today morning, days after she identified her family in photos sent from India.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the woman, named Geeta, is "refusing to recognise her family". The government will now carry out a DNA test to ascertain if the family, who met her in Delhi, is really hers. Meanwhile, accommodation for Geeta has been arranged at an NGO in Indore.

Another twist in the tale is that apart from a family from the eastern state of Bihar that Geeta identified from photographs, and later met in Delhi, at least two other families claimed her as their own.
EAM Sushma Swaraj said that they would "counsel" Geeta to accept her family, if the DNA test proved that they were related. But if the tests are negative, she will be taken care of by a shelter home until her real family is traced. "Whether or not her parents are found, Geeta is our daughter. I thank Pakistan from the core of my heart for looking after her for so long," Ms Swaraj said.

Geeta is believed to have strayed into Pakistan in 2004 when she was about 11 years old. Her plight emerged following a Bollywood film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which told the story of a mute Pakistani girl who gets stranded in India.
