GGSIP University Professor Impersonates Delhi Lieutenant Governor To Get Sister A Job, Gets Caught?

An FIR has been registered against Rohit Singh, an assistant professor in the economics department of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), for allegedly impersonating Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to get his sister a job.

On September 30, Singh, who is currently in the UK, made a phone call to the university¡¯s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mahesh Verma, identifying himself as Lt. Governor VK Saxena, and asked him to appoint one Manvi Singh in the English Department.

Complaint filed by LG's office

Feeling something was amiss, Verma contacted the LG's office, which denied making any such phone calls.

Taking serious note of the incident, the LG's office also filed a complaint on October 2.

During the investigation, it emerged that the call the VC received was from a number based in the UK.

Same number was used to call the candidate

It was also found that the same number was used to contact the candidate, Manvi Singh, and her father, Rajpal Singh.

The number was later traced to Singh, who had left for the UK on September 27.

During the interrogation, Manvi and her father, Rajpal, admitted that the UK number in question belonged to Singh.

Look-out notice, internal probe against accused

Following this, a Look-Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against Singh and investigations are on.

It has also been found that Rohit Singh has travelled to the UK without the mandatory prior permission of the competent authority. Accordingly, a show cause notice has also been issued to him by the university.

An internal inquiry by the university has also found the alleged involvement of some other university officials in this case and suitable action against the concerned persons for violation of Conduct and Service Rules has been initiated.

The Lt. Governor has taken an extremely serious view on this matter of impersonation and emphasised that it has never been his style of functioning to make calls or entertain any requests whatsoever that involve out-of-turn favours, benefits or unethical practices.

"He has also cautioned all concerned to strictly check with his secretariat in case of any such calls or messages received by them, from someone impersonating him or using his name," an official from the LG secretariat said.

Man impersonates Tina Dabi IAS on Whatsapp

In August, a man was arrested in Rajasthan after he impersonated IAS officer Tina Dabi, the collector from Jaisalmer, to defraud others of money and gift cards over WhatsApp.

The matter came to the fore when Urban Improvement Trust secretary (Rajasthan Administrative Service) Sunita Choudhary received a message seeking an Amazon gift card in Tina Dabi¡¯s name.
