Good News Amid The Gloom - Kerala Woman Who Recovered From COVID-19 Delivers Healthy Baby
In some good news amid all the gloom and the outbreak of COVID-19 a woman in Kerala who had recovered from the deadly infection is now a proud mother.
Days after she tested negative twice for COVID-19 she delivered a baby boy on Saturday through Caesarean section at the Government Medical College at Pariyaram in Kannur.
The baby was born through the C section by ensuring all safety and precautionary measures.
In his daily press meet with reporters, Kerala chief minister PInarayi Vijayan shared the "happy news" that the woman who was cured of the infection had a baby through Caesarean section.
While talking to the media, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that amidst the apprehensions over the global pandemic, there is a piece of good news from Kannur.
¡°Both the mother and newborn are doing fine. Congratulations to the medical team,¡± he said.
The woman along with her husband was admitted to the hospital on March 20. The woman's husband had recently returned from the middle east from where he is believed to have contracted the virus.
Even though the couple had recovered from COVID-19 last week, the hospital authorities had decided to keep her under observation as she was heavily pregnant.
The woman was shifted from the isolation ward and was admitted in the gynecology department where she underwent the c-section on Saturday.
According to college Principal Dr. N Roy, though the mother has fully recovered, the baby will be kept away from her for a few days.
The baby has also not shown any symptoms, but PTI reported that his samples have been collected and sent for testing.
This is the first such case in Kerala and the third in India.
The first such reported case in the country was the wife of a resident doctor of AIIMS in Delhi. Both the husband and wife had tested positive and the baby was born through C-section earlier this month. The baby boy was healthy and was infection-free.
Kasargod continues to be the worst-hit district in Kerala where a total of 166 cases have been reported so far. 61 of them have since made full recoveries and have been discharged from hospitals.
