Normalcy Returns To Gurgaon After Traffic Mayhem

Gurugram Police commissioner Navdeep Virk is likely to face the heat of the huge traffic flux in the city which was triggered by heavy monsoon downpours. There are conflicting reports of the Gurgaon police chief being transferred to Rohtak.

This comes a day after the millennium city was literally brought to a standstill on Friday due to water-logging and traffic blockade.

Police had come under heavy criticism as stranded public accused the police of not being visible on the roads hours after the city was in deluge.

Virk claims that police were actively involved in helping the public. He has also put the blame on civic agencies stating that they failed to check the waterlogging.

Met Deptt informs heavy rains till 4pm in Gurgaon. Heavy Transport Vehicles may take alternate routes and not enter from Delhi side today.

Meanwhile normalcy started to return in parts of Gurgaon as the city experienced lesser rains on Saturday. Areas like MG Road, Subhash Chowk, Sohna Road, Palam Vihar, old Delhi-Gurgaon Road were decongested by the afternoon.

On the other hand, areas like Gold Course Road, Pataudi Road, Khandsa Road, Railway Road, Sikanderpur reported heavy traffic movement due to water-logging. Service lanes on parts of the highway reported smoother traffic than earlier in the day.

However, the Hero Honda Chowk continued to be a problem area and tailbacks were seen till Rajeev Chowk due to heavy traffic.

On Friday police had asked schools to stay shut for two days, and prohibitory orders were imposed. It was lifted last night after the situation on the roads normalised but overnight rains contributed to slow traffic movement causing trouble to commuters.
