Haryana Roadways Driver, Conductor Who Saved Rishabh Pant After Horrific Road Accident, Honoured

The Haryana Roadways on Friday honoured bus driver Sushil Kumar and conductor Paramjeet who helped Rishabh Pant get out of his luxury car after it crashed into a road divider and caught fire on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.

"We gave them an appreciation letter and a shield when they returned to Panipat," Haryana Roadways Panipat depot general manager Kuldeep Jangra told PTI.

Their timely action saves Rishabh Pant's life

He said Kumar saw a car slamming into the road divider after which he, along with his conductor, stopped the bus and ran over to help.

Jangra said both the driver and the conductor presented an example of humanity.

'Example of humanity'

The bus, which was headed to Panipat, started from Haridwar at 4.25 am and reached the accident spot about an hour later, he said.

The driver and the conductor told us that minutes after they pulled Pant out of the car, it engulfed in flames, he added.

Haryana Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma said the two presented an example of humanity and provided immediate help to Pant.

Passersby who helped Pant, to be rewarded

Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar on Friday announced that the passersby, who helped Pant, will be honoured and rewarded under the 'Good Samaritan' scheme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.

"Uttarakhand has announced that Haryana Roadways Drivers and Operators and other local people who came forward to help during the road accident on Delhi-Dehradun Highway in which Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant was injured this morning will be honoured and rewarded under the 'Good Samaritan' scheme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India," officials said.

"After a road accident, the first hour for any victim, the golden period, is very crucial. It becomes necessary for a victim to get proper treatment within that one hour. To encourage this social behaviour in the common man, the Good Samaritan scheme has been implemented" said the Uttarakhand DGP.

Car went up in flames moments later

Recalling the incident, Paramjeet said the car went up in flames moments after Pant was pulled out.

"As we dragged him (Rishabh Pant) out, the car caught fire and burned down within 5-7 seconds. He had major injuries on his back. We enquired about his personal information and that is when he said he is an Indian team cricketer," he said.

Rishabh Pant's condition stable

25-year-old Pant who was on his way to his hometown Roorkee to surprise his mother, suffered injuries on his head, back and feet after he dozed off at the wheel of his luxury car that crashed into a road divider and caught fire on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.

While his condition is stable, police said that it was a miracle that he survived the accident.
