Haryana Turns 2 Stadiums Into Temporary Jails Ahead Of Farmers' Protest

In preparation for the anticipated march by thousands of farmers to Delhi on Tuesday, the Haryana government has taken the step of converting two large stadiums into makeshift jails.
Stadiums converted into jails
The Chaudhary Dalbir Singh Indoor Stadium in Sirsa and the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Dabwali will serve as temporary detention facilities for any farmers who are detained or arrested during the march, according to sources familiar with the matter. These temporary jails will be utilised in the event of any untoward situation arising from the farmers' protest.

Additionally, concrete barricades have been erected by the Haryana and Delhi Police at the Tikri border in Jhajjar¡¯s Bahadurgarh and Singhu in Sonepat, along with the placement of water cannons and large cemented containers by Delhi Police at the Sonepat border.
Further, road spikes, barbed wires, and a significant deployment of police personnel have also been observed along the interstate border.

Curbs in place in Delhi, Haryana, UP
Section 144 of the CrPC has been enforced in 15 of Haryana's 22 districts, and the Sonepat district administration has ordered limited diesel filling at petrol pumps to 10 liters for farmers' tractors. Similar restrictions under Section 144 have been imposed at the Ghazipur, Tikri, and Singhu borders in Uttar Pradesh.
The Delhi Police has prohibited public gatherings at all borders between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and surrounding areas in the jurisdictional area of the northeast district.
Haryana has sealed the border with Punjab at Shambhu near Ambala. Big arrangements are in place at the border in Jind and Fatehabad districts to stop the march. The state government has also snapped mobile internet services and bulk SMS in seven districts - Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa - from February 11 to 13.

The protest, organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and various farmer associations mainly from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, aims to urge the Centre to address their demands, including the implementation of a law ensuring a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
