As Heatwave Subsides, Delhi Braces For Dust Storm; Hyderabad Wakes Up To Heavy Rains

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a yellow alert, warning of a dust storm or thunderstorm with winds gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour in the national capital.

There is also a possibility of very light rain in parts of the city.
The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's base station, is likely to settle around 38 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.8 degrees Celsius which was four notches above normal for this time of the year.
The city's normal monthly average temperature in April is 36.30 degrees Celsius.

No heat wave prediction
As a result of a western disturbance affecting northwest India, a cloudy sky is predicted over the capital for the next three days.
The mercury is set to rise by four to five notches over the next six days. However, no heat wave is predicted.
A heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature is over 40 degrees Celsius and at least 4.5 notches above normal. A severe heatwave is declared if the departure from normal temperature is more than 6.4 notches, according to the IMD.
Based on absolute recorded temperatures, a heatwave is declared when an area logs a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius.
A severe heatwave is declared if the maximum temperature crosses the 47-degree Celsius mark.
Heavy rains in Hyderabad
While North India is still waiting for rain, Telangana's capital Hyderabad on Wednesday woke up to surprise summer showers.

Heavy rains, accompanied by gusty winds and lightning, lashed parts of Hyderabad early Wednesday morning bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat.
As per the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Seethafalmandi near Secunderabad received 72.8 mm of rainfall till 6 a.m. whereas, Bansilalpet and West Marredpally recorded rainfall of 67 mm and 61.8 mm respectively.

Pre-monsoon showers across south India
Parts of Karnataka, including the capital Bengaluru, had received heavy rains last week.
The MET department has predicted rains in Kerala and Tamil Nadu for the next couple of days.

The IMD has also predicted the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the South Andaman Sea by May 4.
Earlier this month the IMD had said that India will have a normal southwestern monsoon this year.
The onset of the monsoon is predicted to be June 1, in Kerala.
