Himachal Cloudburst: Over 200 Tourists Stuck In Lahaul-Spiti After Flash Floods

As many as 221 tourists are still stranded in Himachal Pradesh¡¯s Lahaul-Spiti following a cloudburst and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, according to official data released on Friday. Of the total, 191 are local tourists from Himachal Pradesh and 30 others are from Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Delhi, Odisha.
This week, six bridges were damaged at the Lahaul-Spiti district administration due to incessant rainfall in the region. Thereafter, the district administration requested the Army and Border Road Organisation to restore the bridges.
The district administration has said all stranded tourists have been moved to safe places. Officials said, subject to weather conditions, people will be shifted from Udaipur to Sissu Helipad in Lahaul by helicopter on a priority basis. They will then be shifted to Manali via Atal Tunnel, the official added.
7 died, 3 missing after flood
Seven people died and three went missing after a cloudburst flooded Tozing Nullah and washed away two cars, as many tents of labourers and an earth-moving machine in Lahaul and Spiti district while heavy rain since Tuesday night triggered flashfloods and landslides in other parts of the state.

A tourist from Punjab¡¯s Hoshiarpur, Ravindra Sood, was quoted as saying by PTI, "More than 100 tourists have been stranded in Trilokinat and 35 in Fudan villages due to recent cloudburst in Jhalman, Shansha and Thirot areas in Lauhal Valley."
Sood said the number of people stranded at Jhalwan and Udaipur villages is yet to be known and the road has got damaged at several places between Kirting and Thirot.
NH3 blocked due to landslide
Chandigarh-Manali national highway 3 has blocked again after three days due to a landslide. Besides, national Highway 707 has also been blocked near Barwas due to a landslide in Sirmaur District's Kamrau tehsil. Recently, on July 27, the Chandigarh-Manali highway was blocked due to a landslide between Mandi and Kullu at Hanogi in Mandi district.

The state has been recording spells of heavy rainfall during the Monsoon season. This has resulted in landslides as well.
Two weeks ago, another landslide due to heavy rain was also reported from Dharamshala's Bhagsu Nag area. A Landslide was also reported from Pandoh area of Mandi district
