A 'celebrity' radish indeed
Hariram Sharma, a farmer residing in Nimbahera village within Bihar¡¯s Rudawal town, Bharatpura, has gained popularity for cultivating radishes distinguished by their unique size, shape, and weight.
According to him, the radishes in his field boast weights ranging from 11 to 15 kilograms and measure 2 to 3 feet in size.
The exceptional weight of these radishes necessitates the involvement of two individuals for their uprooting.
This extraordinary produce has become a local sensation, attracting visitors from neighboring areas who come to witness the spectacle.
The oversized radishes are currently being sold at prices ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 35 per kilogram.
But the heaviest radish in the world was actually grown last year in Japan. At 45 kgs, it got the Guinness World Record for the same, and rightfully so!
How were the humongous radishes grown?
The enormous size of these radishes can be attributed to the use of hybrid seeds. Additionally, Sharma attributes the consistent success of his crops to the fertile soil in his field.
According to Hariram Sharma, the radishes not only have a distinctive appearance but also boast a delicious taste. He recommends them for making parathas and salads.
Radishes, being a quick-growing cool-season root vegetable, typically germinate within 3 to 4 days under soil temperatures ranging from 18 to 30 degrees Celsius with adequate moisture. Sandy loam soils with a high organic matter content are particularly well-suited for successful radish cultivation.
The agricultural marvel of these colossal radishes stands as a testament to innovative farming techniques and fertile soil conditions that contribute to the growth of such exceptional produce.
