Hyderabad Serial Killer Murdered 18 Women Since Wife Left Him, Says Police
After killing Venkatamma, accused Maina Ramulu burnt her face with petrol beyond recognition, following which a 20-day-long extensive investigation led to the arrest of the serial killer.
A 45-year-old man, who was allegedly involved in 18 cases of murder of women, besides other offences, was arrested in Hyderabad, police said.
Only recently, he murdered a woman identified as Venkatamma who was a resident of Jubilee hills in Telangana's Hyderabad on January 4. After killing Venkatamma, accused Maina Ramulu burnt her face with petrol beyond recognition, following which a 20-day-long extensive investigation led to the arrest of the serial killer.

Was arrested in 21 cases
The man, a stone cutter, was apprehended by the sleuths of city police Task Force and the police of Rachakonda Commissionerate. The arrest was made by a joint team of Hyderabad and Rachakonda Police, and the police was able to solve two more murder cases.
Earlier, he was arrested in 21 cases, including 16 cases of murder for gain, four property offences and one case of escaping from police custody. He got married at the age of 21, but his wife eloped with another man within a short period and he bore a grudge against women since then, police said.

His modus operandi
"His modus operandi is to target women visiting toddy shops. So far, he killed 18 women in the limits of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, Mahabubnagar and Rangareddy districts," said Mahesh Bhagwat, CP Rachakonda.

He started committing grave crimes in 2003, targeting single women by offering them money for sexual favours.
He would kill his victims after consuming liquor or toddy with them and then flee after stealing their valuables, police added.

His criminal journey
In February 2011, he was given a life sentence by a court. While serving the life term at the Cherlapally Central Jail, he was admitted to a mental hospital in Erragadda for treatment. However, he and 5 others escaped from that hospital in December 2011.

Police had arrested him in 2013, but he was later released from the jail in 2018 after an appeal petition filed in the high court. He committed two murders ¡ª one within the limits of Shamirpet PS of Cyberabad, and another in Patancheru PS limits of Sangareddy district. He was again arrested and put behind the bars, but in July 2020 he came out of jail and killed at least two women.
