Hyderabad May Lose Its Green Lungs If Govt Gives Nod For An Upcoming Police Academy

The state government is preparing to cut down 63799 trees along the Gomti river for the Defence Expo scheduled to be held in February next year.
Development is a boon if it doesn't affect the existing green cover. Sooner or later, we may eventually bear the brunt of the impending climate change.
In order to delay the impact of climate change, we must ensure and preserve our green cover as much as possible. Chilkur Reserve Forest in Hyderabad is known as the city's lungs and is spread over 800 acres but it appears to be facing a severe threat, a report in the Times of India stated.
RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA) is planning to build a commando school and training centre and has asked permission to prune the region's green cover.
They have written to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for the permission seeking around 60 acres of the land.
It appears TSPA's request for the forest land is expected to take up a lot of space of the Murgavani National Park, which is located in the same forest area. The wildlife sanctuary houses over 600 species of plants, 350 spotted dear, wild boars and around 100 bird varieties.
As per the letter of which the copy is with TOI, TSPA said, "It is to inform that a land measuring 7.6 hectares where the academy's constructions had come up long ago is adjusted and incorporated in the proposed diversion of 24.4 hectares of land to TSPA."
This is not the first time a sprawling region of green land cover is being culled for infrastructural purpose. The Uttar Pradesh government is well determined with the plan to cut down 64,000 trees for the Defence Expo to be held in the capital city of Lucknow. Lucknow is among the top 10 most polluted cities in the country. In fact, Lucknow and Kanpur are currently the most polluted cities in India.
The state government is preparing to cut down 63,799 trees along the Gomti river for the Defence Expo, scheduled to be held in February next year. According to a report by news agency IANS, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) in a letter, has asked the Lucknow Nagar Nigam to remove the trees from Hanuman Setu to the Nishatganj bridge since various programmes in the Defence Expo will be held.
The land, after clearing the trees, will be handed over to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) which will be hosting the event. Lucknow is hosting the Defence Expo for the first time and several delegates from across the world will be a part of the mega show in a display of the country¡¯s defence capabilities. The Expo will be held from February 5 to 8 and will showcase latest arms and weapons available with the defence forces.
