Karthik had received a Rs 92 lakh package from Google in 2013
Kavin Karthik, an Indian engineer, started his career at Google after graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-Madras).
He hit the headlines recently after he made the shift to OpenAI.
Karthik had earned a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Madras.
In 2013, Google had offered him a notable salary of Rs 92 lakh, along with two other IITians.
Notably, IIT-Madras is also where Google CEO Sundar Pichai studied.
Karthik took to LinkedIn and X to express, "Google was more than a workplace; it was a crucible of growth and innovation that defined my 20s. The opportunity to work alongside phenomenal leaders and teammates was nothing short of a privilege, and I'm profoundly grateful for the invaluable lessons and experiences gained."

Now, Kavin Karthik has joined OpenAI as a Member of the Technical Staff.
He wrote, "As I step into OpenAI, my focus will shift to harnessing the transformative power of AI with @ChatGPTapp , bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and product development. I'm eager to contribute to and grow with this dynamic field, pushing the boundaries of what's possible."
OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman responded, "Welcome to the team!"

Is OpenAI 'poaching' employees?
Earlier this week, Musk had taken to X to say that OpenAI have been aggressively recruiting Tesla engineers with massive compensation offers and have been successful in a few cases.
With Karthik's transition from Google to OpenAI, it becomes evident that they are casting their net wider than just Tesla for talent.
