Not What You Think! IIT Mandi Director Has 'Found' Reason Behind Landslides In Himachal

More than 200 people lost their lives, and over 11,600 houses were partially or entirely damaged; over 400 roads were blocked, and Himachal Pradesh suffered losses worth more than Rs 10,000 crore in the monsoon season due to heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides this year.

Scientists and environmentalists have blamed climate change and other human actions like unplanned development and the destruction of the hills for the devastation the state has suffered in recent years.

But, according to the wisdom of Laxmidhar Behera, the Director of IIT Mandi, landslides and cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh are happening because of cruelty to animals.

"Himachal Pradesh will have a significant downfall...if we do not stop butchering animals. You are butchering animals there... the innocent animals. It has a symbiotic relationship with the degradation of the environment as well... which you cannot see right now but is there..."

"It is having landslides, cloudbursts, and many other things again and again, these are all effects of cruelty on animals...people eat meat," Behera was heard saying in a video that has gone viral on social media.

"To become good human beings, what you have to do? No to meat eating," he further said and then asked the students to pledge that they will not eat meat.

IIT Mandi Director faces criticism

It is unclear how Behera, who became the Director of IIT Mandi in January 2021 and has an academic background in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, made this pathbreaking discovery, which Ecologists have failed to identify all these years.

But surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, most people on social media were not amused by Behera's findings.

"The collapse is complete. These superstitious fools will destroy whatever little was built in 70 years," Sandeep Manudhane, an entrepreneur and IIT Delhi alumni, said.

"In the current dispensation, having views like those of the Director of IIT Mandi featured here is a feature, not a bug. It's simply sad," Gautam Menon, a professor of biophysics, said.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said Behera is not fit to hold the position of IIT-Mandi Director.

"The PM spoke of plastic surgery being known to our ancestors. He also told children climate has not changed, while we have. A senior Minister confused Newton and Einstein, while another justified excluding Darwin from textbooks."

"Now, this simply flabbergasting statement from the Director of a prestigious institution!!! He actually has shown he is not fit to hold the position. The longer he stays, more the damage he will do to the spirit of scientific temper," Ramesh said in a post.

It should be noted that this is not the first time meat-eating has been linked to natural disasters.
