In a shocking incident, migrant workers in Karnataka's Mangaluru city are being given rotten rice, unfit for human consumption. Hundreds of 5 kilo rice bags were distributed to the workers in an attempt to pacify them and wuithdraw the agitation. The workers were also told that the state would soon arrange for their transport.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, the Labour Department had distributed the rice a few days ago after an agitation by migrant workers demanding the state to arrange transport to take them to their homes in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Hundreds of 5 kilo rice bags were distributed to the workers in an attempt to pacify the workers and withdraw the agitation. The workers were also told that the state would soon arrange for their transport.

A video of the rotten rice is viral on social media platforms.
The labourers were in for a shock and disgust when they returned to their shelters and opened the rice bags. They found it spoiled and threw it away. They said the rice were in a such a condition which is also unfit for even animal consumption.
Migrant workers are among the most vulnerable sections of the society who have suffered the most during the nationwide lockdown. Inadequate arrangements and lack of employment have forced the workers to walk to their homes in different states, undertaking hundreds of kilometers long journeys.
