IndiGo Passengers Headed To Guwahati End Up In Bangladesh Without Passports

An IndiGo flight, 6E 5319, traveling from Mumbai to Guwahati, had to make an emergency landing in Dhaka, Bangladesh, due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility at the Guwahati airport. The diversion to Dhaka occurred at 4 am on Saturday.
Pilot opted for Dhaka for landing
Facing challenges in landing at Kolkata and Bhubaneswar due to unfavorable weather and runway closure, respectively, the pilot opted for Dhaka, considering it as the nearest available airport.
IndiGo officially confirmed the diversion, stating, "IndiGo flight 6E 5319 from Mumbai to Guwahati was diverted to Dhaka, Bangladesh, due to bad weather in Guwahati." The airline then made arrangements for a new crew to facilitate the return of stranded passengers to their original destination.

¡°Due to operational reasons, an alternate set of crew is being arranged to operate the flight from Dhaka to Guwahati. The passengers were kept informed of the updates and were served refreshments on board. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused,¡± IndiGo¡¯s statement read.
Passengers took to X to share their experience
Among the passengers was Congress leader Suraj Sing Thakur, who shared his experience on social media, revealing that due to dense fog, the flight couldn't land in Guwahati, leading to an unexpected landing in Dhaka.
I took @IndiGo6E flight 6E 5319 from Mumbai to Guwahati. But due to dense fog, the flight couldn't land in Guwahati. Instead, it landed in Dhaka. Now all the passengers are in Bangladesh without their passports, we are inside the plane.??

Thakur and fellow passengers found themselves in Bangladesh temporarily, creating an unusual situation.

Replying to the flyer¡¯s concern, the airlines wrote, ¡°Hi, we truly regret the inconvenience caused to you. The flight was diverted due to bad weather which is beyond our control too. Our team is working to assist the passengers to the best of their capabilities. We sincerely look forward to your understanding. ~Ravi¡±
The 178 passengers on board faced a test of patience as they waited for nine hours and were subsequently asked to endure an additional four-hour wait for the arrival of the new crew.
According to a flight tracking website cited by PTI, the flight, scheduled to depart from Mumbai at 8:20 pm and land in Guwahati at 11:10 pm, experienced a three-hour delay, taking off from Mumbai at 11:20 pm.
