The well-known photo-sharing platform Instagram, owned by Meta, is said to be in the development stages of a new feature known as "Friend Map."
As implied by its name, this upcoming feature aims to enable users on the social media platform to visualise the geographical locations of their friends on a map.

According to the screenshots he provided, it seems that users will have the option to personalise which friends on the platform can view their location. Moreover, there is a feature called "Ghost mode" that allows you to conceal your location when desired instead of sharing it. It's important to note that the location information is secured with end-to-end encryption.
How will the 'Friend Map' feature of Instagram work?
The functionality of the feature seems to be reminiscent of Snap's Snap Map. Additionally, it seems to provide the option to leave notes directly on the map, allowing users to inform their friends about exciting events or their whereabouts, such as shopping for new jeans at the mall.
Although Paluzzi shared screenshots of the feature, its development is ongoing, and there is uncertainty about its inclusion in the official Instagram app.
However, media reports suggest that Paluzzi consistently unveils Instagram features before their public announcement.
