It's juicy, It's creamy: Its the Ras Malai
It is none other than the Rasmalai!
Described by the Taste Atlas as, "a rich cheecake without a crust," the Ras Malai is believed to have West Bengali origins.
Ras malai is a famous Indian dessert made with white cream, sugar, milk, and cardamom-flavored paneer cheese called chhana. It's often mixed with almonds, cashews, and saffron for extra flavor.
The name "ras malai" comes from two Hindi words: "ras," meaning juice, and "malai," meaning cream.
Usually served cold, it's topped with cardamom seeds or dried fruits. This sweet treat is especially enjoyed during festivals like Holi and Diwali.
Top 25 cheese desserts in the world
The top spot in the list is bagged by 'Sernik,' a cheescake dish from Poland.
Sernik is a dessert made with eggs, sugar, and twar車g, a type of curd cheese that has been enjoyed for centuries.
The origin of sernik goes back to the 17th century when King Jan III Sobieski brought back the recipe after winning the Battle of Vienna against the Turks. One of the most loved versions of this dessert has a sponge cake at the bottom and is topped with jelly and fruit.
Greece's 'Sfakianopita' claimed the third spot.
It's a pie with layers of thin dough and soft white whey cheese. The dough is made with flour, olive oil, water, salt, and a bit of raki (Cretan tsikoudia), and instead of being filled with local myzithra cheese, the dough is mixed with the cheese. The mixture is flattened into a thin circle, like a crepe or pancake, and fried until golden and crispy.
