Kangana Ranaut Calling Women Soft-Porn Star, B-Grade Actors & Trivialising Rape Is Not Feminism
Amid the pandemic, the widely discussed topic within the social groups is Bollywood actor Kangana Ranuat, who of late is busy hogging the limelight for all the wrong reasons. First being, she calls herself a "feminist" and wants to be recognised as an icon of women empowerment.
Amid the pandemic, the widely discussed topic within the social groups is Bollywood actor Kangana Ranuat, who of late is busy hogging the limelight for all the wrong reasons. First being, she calls herself a "feminist" and wants to be recognised as an icon of women empowerment, while abusing fellow women in the same breath.
However, revisiting Miss Ranaut's statements over the last few days, it may be a little difficult for people to side with her if we still believe in having some moral compass.
Kangana's constant attacks on Bollywood prompted many from the fraternity to counter her statements. Her latest remark was against Urmila Matondkar who had called her out to tackle the drug abuse problem in her home state of Himachal Pradesh. However, Kangana responded with an unsavoury statement on TV news channel calling Urmila a "soft-porn star."
Calling another artist as a soft porn star!!! You are disgusting n morally bankrupt @KanganaTeam

Shameful how constantly character assassinate them...Do you know how being raped feels??? How do you draw a comparison with building Demolition...
Rape= forceful sexual intercourse
For the low standards that the once-revered actor had set for her of late, this remark was quite ludicrous and hare-brained.
How Dare u @KanganaTeam call @UrmilaMatondkar a Soft porn star.. There is no comparison to the volume of work done by urmila

And literally shame on u @navikakumar u let her get away with it..
U both are a disgrace to humanity.
Sick pathetic women .@ShivSena@rautsanjay61
Urmila is a name synonymous with the 90s Bollywood and has made a mark for herself through her choice of multi-faceted movies in several less-touched genres of thrillers, dramas and horror flicks.
Not only Kangana's comment was distasteful, it also is a rather hypocrite space after she created much hue and cry when Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut called her "haramkhor" which translates to "freeloaders" in English. She was quick to call it a vulgar and personal attack and equated those comments to a remark made against millions of independent women across the country. This sense of appropriateness and civility were nowhere to be seen when she called Urmila a "soft-porn actor" or when she attacked veteran actor and MP Jaya Bachchan by commenting on her daughter Shweta Bachchan.
Kangana calls Urmila Matondkar "soft porn star"

Few days ago she was shouting that Sanjay Raut disrespected women by calling her HARAMKHOR
What a Hypocrite.
"Jaya ji would you say the same thing if in my place it was your daughter Shweta beaten, drugged and molested as a teenager, would you say the same thing if Abhishek complained about bullying and harassment constantly and found hanging one day? Show compassion for us also," Kangana had tweeted.
A few sane minds were quick to call out Kangana for her hypocrisy.
So what if #UrmilaMatonkar was a soft porn actor? Does that make her views any less valid? @KanganaTeam displaying her narcissism and chauvinism

Of course, Kangana's comments are problematic but what's more problematic is that she doesn't shy away from calling herself a feminist and an icon of women empowerment who "taught Bollywood feminism." But which part of feminism abuses other women for their choices and actions? In which definition of feminism, is it acceptable to call a female a porn star? And even if someone was a porn star, how does that become degrading? Kangana equated Urmila with a porn-star signalling that it is a dishonourable thing to be one.
One cannot hope to be a feminist and voice of millions of women by shaming other women. Feminism and abuse do not go hand in hand.
For a society like ours, it takes years to accept a powerful, independent female. It is conventional to them to face trolls, which means they are somehow managing to revolutionise their surroundings.
However, Kangana's brand of feminism has swayed from the path. Feminism is all about inclusivity. But Kangana's feminism only favours and benefits her.
Taking jibes at actors like Richa Chadha, Swara Bhaskar and Taapsee Pannu, and calling them "B-grade" actors, Kangana once again proved that she has an extremely flawed understanding of feminism.
Kangana was a firebrand three years ago when she appeared in Aap Ki Adalat. Over the years, that sense of empowerment has taken a difficult turn and much to the disappointment of many young women, who looked up to her at one point.
