Kerala's Munnar Hill Station Chosen The 'Best Destination For Romance' By Lonely Planet
Munnar, one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Kerala has been adjudged the ¡®Best Destination for Romance¡¯ by the magazine Lonely Planet Travel Awards 2017.

The sixth annual award chose the winners based on votes by travellers.
An expert panel nominates a couple of destinations across the country in various categories such as romance, culture, adventure, food and drink, wildlife, and the winners are chosen through an online survey.

Kerala Tourism director P Bala Kiran who received the award said:
"It is overwhelming to know that Kerala has been gaining popularity as India's most preferred destination among the Indian travellers. The tourism department will continue to keep up the positive momentum."

Located in Idukki district, at an altitude of 1,600 metres above sea level, the hill station is a favoured destination of honeymooners.
Discovered by British as their summer resort in south India Munnar literally meaning 'Three Rivers', and is know for its greenery, tea gardens and waterfalls.

The abundance of rare wildlife in neighbouring Rajamala and Marayoor also adds to the Munnar experience.

It is also home to Neelakurinji, a rare flower which blooms only once in twelve years and doesn't grow anywhere else. The last time it happened was in 2006, and in 2018 it is expected to bloom again.
