Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: Case Against Union Minister's Son For Killing Farmers; Priyanka Gandhi Detained

A murder case has been filed against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra's son for allegedly running a car over protesting farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimour Kheri.
Four farmers were among nine people killed in the incident.
Minister Ajay Mishra has denied that his son, Ashish Mishra, was linked to the violence.
"My son wasn't present at the spot. There were miscreants who attacked workers with sticks and swords. Had my son been there, he wouldn't have come out alive," Mishra, the junior Home Minister, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. "My son was present at the venue of the (Deputy Chief Minister's) event... all through, I was accompanying the deputy chief minister," he said.
Mobile internet services were suspended in parts of the violence-hit district, and restrictions under Section 144 have also been placed.

The UP Police took to Twitter early on Monday to describe the incident as "unfortunate" and said eight casualties have been reported till now as per the district administration.
According to the district magistrate, the four deceased farmers have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh (20), Satnam Singh (20), Hari Singh (35) and Subba Singh (65). All belong to Bahraich and Kheri districts.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained and Samajwadi Party¡¯s Akhilesh Yadav sat on dharna outside his residence.

The death toll in the incident also rose to nine as a local journalist missing since yesterday succumbed to his injuries.
Akhilesh Yadav was detained after he was sitting on a dharna outside his residence. Earlier, he was stopped by the UP Police from going to Lakhimpur Kheri.
Farmers have lodged a complaint against Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra Teni and his son Ashish Mishra Teni in Tikunia, Lakhimpur Kheri over yesterday's incident, ANI reported.
