From Delhi NCR To Bengaluru: Panic Among Residents As Leopards Sighted In Colonies Across India
On Tuesday, a leopard was sighted at Greater Noida West's Ajnara Le Garden Society after which the residents protested against the builders and authorities.
Leopard sightings across India has triggered panic among residents across parts of India. Recently, the big cat has been spotted near or inside residential areas in Noida, Gurugram, Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh, Bengaluru, Jharkhand and Assam among other areas.
Greater Noida

The leopard was first sighted in the colony on December 27. Since it was first spotted, forest department personnel from Gautam Buddh Nagar and the neighbouring districts have been trying to find it.
Trap cages with goats as bait have also deployed, while stray dogs have been removed from the society as they were getting trapped in the cages, interfering with the search. A hydraulic crane was also requisitioned from the fire department to search the upper floors of buildings under construction.
Five days on, the search operation has continued but to no avail.

Recently, two leopard kittens were seen in the Asola Bhatti Sanctuary, providing a brand-new illustration of how tenacious conservationist efforts and the work of the forest and wildlife department may aid in the recovery of numerous wildlife species in urban jungles.
Southern Delhi, as well as the northern portions of the Faridabad and Gurugram districts of Haryana, contain the 32.71 km2 Asola-Bhati Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located on the Southern Delhi Ridge of the Aravalli hill range on the Delhi-Haryana border.

Officials from the forest department claimed that the two cubs were discovered a few days ago on a camera trap, PTI reported.
Eight leopards were found in the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary, according to research published in October by the wildlife department and the BHNS. This information is sufficient to imply that the giant animal has made the urban forest its permanent home.
Aligarh
A leopard that entered a house in the Jawan village of Aligarh was safely rescued by forest officials on Saturday. Earlier in the day, the feline entered the house of a local resident named Prem Kumar. The leaopard was rescued by the Aligarh forest department by cordoning the entire area.

Bengaluru
In Karnataka, the leopard menace has caused major disruption to normal life, not only in residential settlements adjoining forest areas, but the big cats are prowling in state capital Bengaluru as well as in other major cities such as Mysuru and Belagavi.
As the incidents of loss of life are increasing every day due to leopard attacks, the Karnataka government was compelled to announce Rs 15 lakhs as compensation for the victims' families. Earlier, this compensation amount was given to families of victims of elephant attacks.
In the last week of December 2022, celebrations took place in Mysuru district as a seven-year-old man-eating leopard was finally trapped in Ukkalagere village of T. Narasipur taluk. The leopard had killed two persons, a student and a 22-year-old woman, and also attacked livestock, creating terror for the residents of the region.
Jharkhand
Locals in villages in Jharkhand are under constant fear and are spending sleepless nights as leopards have turned maneaters in the area. The deaths of five people within 25 days due to leopard attacks in Jharkhand has created an environment of constant dread and panic for residents in the Palamu Tiger Reserve area and Garhwa district.
Because of the leopard attacks, people of about 150 villages in the area limit their movements to their homes as soon as the sun sets, due to the fear of being attacked by the big cat.

Four cages have been placed in the areas where the leopard is likely to move. Traps have also been laid at some places, but to no avail.
On December 28, a 12-year-old boy was killed by a leopard around 6 p.m. in Kushwaha village. Earlier, on December 10, the maneater attacked a 12-year-old girl at Ukamad village in Latehar district. Another incident took place on December 14, where a 9-year-old child was attacked in Rodo village of Garhwa district.
The third incident occurred in Ranka block on December 19, where a 7-year-old girl died in a leopard attack. Similarly, in the first week of January, an elderly man was killed in a wild animal attack in Barwadih block under Palamu Tiger Reserve.
