A woman in Mysuru, Karnataka is critical after several injuries when she was allegedly stabbed multiple times by a man. Police said this took place after she rejected the accused's marriage proposal.
His name is Gagan alias Kencha.
Police said Gagan, a cab driver, hails from Bellikatte Mission Road, while the woman was from Dewan¡¯s Road under the jurisdiction of Lakshmirpuram police.
They were in love for the last three-four years.
But a couple of weeks back she broke up with him and did not say yes to his proposal of marriage. He did not take it well and went to her house.
He stabbed her with a dagger multiple times.
He then surrendered to the police.
¡°When Gagan put forth a marriage proposal, the victim and her family rejected it. Spurned by this, he attacked the girl at her home. He knocked on the door of her house and when she opened it, he stabbed her. She sustained injuries on her chest, stomach, and back. One wound is very deep,¡± a TOI report said after quoting police sources.
She was rushed to hospital.
Crimes against women on the rise
According to NCRB data, crimes against women have gone up since the lockdown was implemented. This year in general the rates have gone up compared to 2019. Be it rape, molestation, domestic violence or random acts of rage like this, women have been at the receiving end of brutal treatment.
Not something for us as a nation to be proud of.
