"My husband was bleeding. His head was smashed. They beat the family...my husband had no enemies,"Akhlaq's wife was quoted telling NDTV.
Meat sent for testing! But why?
Akhlaq's daughter was quoted saying that they only had mutton in their fridge. Police arrested six men from the spot and sent the meat for forensic testing. Investigation to determine how the beef rumor began is underway. "We found out that the people beat them because they consumed cow meat. More people will be arrested," said S Kiran, a senior police officer said.
Recently several state governments passed strict laws banning cow slaughter and sale and consumption of beef but UP and nearby Delhi don't fall under this ambit. The ban however sparked a huge debate, questioning how the government could decide what one should consume and what not.
Incidents of people going to such an extent to kill people over rumours of beef consumption is an indication towards a dangerous trend which must be stopped immediately.
Twitteratis strongly reacted to the incident with most condemning such an act of barbarism.
If Indian Government has any shame then it will end the beef ban across India in response to the recent "beef murder" by Hindutva terrorists

A man is murdered but what could be more important than having a lab check whether the meat in his fridge was #beef? https://t.co/Mca1YnOgY3

Hatred and intolerance are getting mainstreamed. Don't tell me only one man was killed over beef rumours. Even one killing is one too many.
