Jamnagar police also were a little amused at what transpired when they took 24-year-old Tamilselvan Kannan into custody. The man admitted to stealing at least 500 laptops from several medical college hostels across the country since 2015.
Laptops missing since December 2020
Jamnagar police were after him when six laptops were stolen from a room in the girls hostel of MP Shah Medical College on December 26, 2020.
¡°In 2015, some medical students in Chennai had clandestinely recorded an objectionable video of his girlfriend and made it viral. This filled him with a bitter grudge against the medical students,¡± said KL Gadhe, inspector, B-division police station, Jamnagar.
Tamilselvan would look for names and addresses of medical colleges online.
¡°He stole laptops as, unlike mobile phones, they can¡¯t be traced. Moreover, it was easy to sell them off,¡± added Gadhe.
He began to colleges in South India and then shifted to Bhankri village near Faridabad. From here he started sneaking into medical college hostels in the northern part of the country.
The Jamnagar one was his first theft in Gujarat. He reached there in December and stayed in a hotel near Anupam Cinema. From there he did a recce of the girls hostel. He was able to find a room key and got away with the goods.
