The story of this Gujarat man who filed an FIR against himself after an accident on 4 February, is truly difficult to wrap one's head around.
Sudden swerve, and an accident
Paresh Doshi, a 55-year-old man from Narmada district in Gujarat was on his way home from the Ambaji temple when an accident occured near Daan Mahudi village on the Kheroj-Khedbrahma highway.
All of a sudden, a stray dog jumped in front of their car.
Paresh was forced to take a sharp swerve to avoid hitting the dog. But the car ended up crashing into barricades which led to his wife's death.
Recounting the incident to police, Doshi said, "My wife and I left our house early on Sunday and reached Ambaji temple around noon. However, the temple was closed. We waited till 1.30pm, offered our prayers and left. I was driving towards Suka Amba village when a stray dog ran in front of our car. I swerved to avoid hitting the canine and lost control of the vehicle, which rammed sideways into makeshift pillars and barricades on the roadside."
A first - FIR against oneself
However, it is what came next that is more shocking.
Paresh blamed himself for the accident - and filed an FIR against himself!
He stated in his FIR that the fatal accident resulted from his negligence while driving.
A barricade pierced through the passenger window of the car, trapping Amita to her seat with grievous injuries. Doshi explained in the FIR that the impact activated the auto lock mechanism, leaving them trapped inside.
"Bystanders rushed to the rescue. Someone broke the glass on the window, opened the lock and helped us out of the car. Amita was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead," Doshi said.
Stray dog issue in Gujarat
Gujarat has been facing the stray dog menace for quite some time now.
In October, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) disclosed that it had received 7,000 complaints related to stray dogs in that particular year.
Hearing a PIL filed in 2020, Gujarat High Court had acknowledged in February 2023 that it had become increasingly difficult for citizens to go for morning walks because of the stray dog menace.
