In India, the concept of class has long been ingrained in societal norms.
An illustrative example of this dynamic unfolds when individuals, such as ourselves, embark on holidays.
Those who have experienced journeys with drivers may have noticed a stark dichotomy: while they drive us to luxurious 5-star hotels, they themselves often retire for the night in less opulent accommodations.
Indeed, the destiny of accompanying drivers frequently teeters between lodging in a modest room elsewhere or improvising a makeshift bed within their vehicles.
Recently, social media user Nikhil Gupta brought attention to this situation, sharing his personal experience and advocating for upscale hotels to extend their hospitality to these accompanying drivers.
Should have a dedicated place in hotels for drivers as a mandate
Gupta shared in a post on X, "I came to Jaipur with my Papa, Chachu, and driver uncle for work, and we decided to stay in JW Marriott, a lovely hotel. When we asked them if there was any arrangement for driver Ji, the answer was no, there wasn¡¯t, and we had to arrange a place for him at midnight."
He continued, "Go to a 2-3 star hotel, they have this service; go to a Dharamshala, they have this service, then why not 5-star hotels?"
"This is the case with all luxury hotels, and I feel there should be a mandate to have a dedicated place where drivers can sleep in such hotels as well; it's almost common sense ki kaha sega driver bhai," he stated.

Why discriminate by not booking a room for him, netizens question
Opinions among Desis on this matter appear to be split.
One individual expressed, "That¡¯s not hotel¡¯s responsibility. I haven¡¯t seen any hotel providing separate accommodation for drivers."
Conversely, another suggested, "ussi hotel mein ek room unke liye bhi book krwa dete."
A different perspective emerged with a comment stating, "Doesn't serve their purpose. People don't pay for their drivers. The economic divide is real."
Another commentator delved into the practical aspects, stating, "Its a basic business sense that providing a place for driver would require 1) space, which could be used for something else, 2) Maintenance and 3) Overhead expenses (electricity etc). And when a hotel charges for this service, most people ask their driver to just sleep in the car."
Meanwhile, some individuals posed a straightforward question, "Why didn't you book a basic room for him? Why the discrimination?"
