A couple in Manipur's Kangpokpi district has named their son Emmanuel Quarantino after he was born at a quarantine centre. The couple was placed under institutional quarantine in after returning from Goa.
When the couple reached Manipur on May 27 in a special train from Goa, the woman was at an advanced stage of pregnancy. After they arrived at Haipi village in the district, they were kept in a room at the Emmanuel School there which had been converted into a quarantine centre.
Quarantino is the first baby in the northeastern state, they added. "As they are under quarantine and the name of the isolation centre is Emmanuel School, they named the baby Emmanuel Quarantino," an official told PTI.
"The woman delivered the baby boy without complications on Sunday. Both the mother and the baby are doing fine," Dr. Paotinlal Haokip, in-charge Medical Superintendent of Kangpokpi District Hospital, said.
While it sounds unique baby Quarantino is not the first to get a rather unusual name during these unusual times.
Recently a couple in Meerut had named their newborn twins 'Quarantine' and 'Sanitizer'.
When asked why they chose such names, the duo said that both things are very important in fighting COVID-19.
Another set of twins from Chhattisgarh was named ¡®Corona¡¯ and ¡®Covid¡¯. A couple in Madhya Pradesh had recently named their son Sanitiser Singh.
In Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district, two couples named their newborn babies born during the lockdown as Corona Kumar and Corona Kumari, because the doctors at the hospital that they were born suggested so.
