Meet G. Nirmala: Defying Child Marriage To Triumph As State Intermediate Exam Topper
G. Nirmala, hailing from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, clinched the first position in the 1st Year Intermediate exam conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Intermediate Board. Her accomplishment is all the more remarkable because she has had to face numerous challenges in life, including child marriage.

Who is G. Nirmala?
G. Nirmala comes from Pedda Harivanam, situated in the Adoni mandal of Kurnool district.
Despite facing financial hardships and parental pressure, as her three sisters were already married off, Nirmala remained determined to pursue her education.
Even when her parents wanted to halt her schooling due to financial limitations and the absence of a nearby junior college, Nirmala reached out for assistance during a community engagement program conducted by local legislator Y Saiprasad Reddy.
Her persistence in education eventually bore fruit.
Rescued from child marriage, now aiming to be IPS officer
Moved by her situation, Reddy brought Nirmala's plight to the attention of District Collector G Srujana, leading to her rescue from the impending child marriage.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the district administration, she was enrolled in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Aspari, marking the beginning of her remarkable journey of transformation.
KGBV, Kurnool, is a residential girls' school established by the Ministry of Education to cater to the educational needs of disadvantaged sections in India.
From that pivotal moment onward, Nirmala's dedication and perseverance knew no bounds.
Despite the numerous challenges she encountered, she excelled in her studies, ultimately topping the intermediate exams this year with an impressive score of 421 out of 440.
