9-Year-Old Raped In Hyderabad, 8th Case Of Sexual Abuse Of Minors Since Jubilee Hills Incident

Hyderabad police has arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl, repeatedly for the last three to four days.

According to the police, the accused is a neighbour of the 9-year-old victim.

"The accused lives the near the victim's house. The accused was married and has two children. Accused's wife quarrelled with him and left him along with her children and went to her parents' house. Taking the advantage of innocence of minor child, he called her on the pretext of fetching him cigarettes from nearby shop, took her inside the house and committed sexual assault on her for more than once in last three days," the police said.

The accused, identified as Shaik Saleem works as an autorickshaw driver.

He has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and SC/ST (POA) Act.

At least eight minor girls raped in one week

During the last one week, a series of incidents of sexual assaults on minor girls have come to light from in and around Hyderabad.

Ever since the May 28 gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl in a car in upscale Jubilee Hills came to light, at least eight rapes of minors have been reported.

The latest incident came to light a day after Hyderabad city police arrested two persons for raping two siblings, both minors.

According to the police, Imtiyaz, 23, and Nawaz, 21, raped the victims on several occasions over the past one year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police N. Sudhir said the accused were habitual offenders who were involved in a series of property offences in different parts of the city.

The first case was reported from Ramgopalpet Police station on Monday and the second was at Rajendernagar Police station limits.

Jubilee hills gang rape case

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police on Saturday began questioning five juveniles arrested in connection with the May 28 gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in a car. The police until now were questioning only the accused who is a major.

Out of five accused who sexually assaulted the girl, four are aged 16-17. The fifth accused is 18-year-old Malik, who is the prime accused.

The sixth accused who has been charged with molestation is one month short of turning 18. He is the son of an MLA of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM).

Two others are said to be sons of TRS corporators in Greater Hyderabad and Sangareddy. One of them is said to have played a key role in trapping the victim and luring her into the car.
