Mumbai Cop Loans Rs 1 Lakh To Man, Kidnaps And Kills Him For Not Repaying It Back

The police are meant to protect the people, but in one bizarre case, a policeman has ended up murdering a sand supplier as he was not able to repay the loan that he took from him.

A constable attached to the Kandivli police station in Mumbai has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and murdering the man over non-repayment of a Rs 1 lakh loan.

The police constable, Mustak Mulani (35), allegedly then dumped the vicitm's body on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway. Mulani has been remanded in police custody by the Thane sessions court till November 8. The police said that the victim, Mustafa Shaikh (35), was kidnapped by Mulani and his brother on Wednesday , when he had stepped out for work. Shaikh was reportedly kept captive at Mulani's house at Vijay Park in Mira Road and tortured.

Shaikh's wife has told the police that Mulani called her up after kidnapping her husband and demanded the loan money. She said that Shaikh too spoke to her and told her that he was being tortured by Mulani and his brother. In her complaint, she has told the police that Shaikh asked her to sell her gold ornaments and arrange for the money so that Mulani could be repaid. After the call from Mulani and her husband, Shaikh's wife app roached the police and lodged a kidnap complaint against Mulani.

Shaikh had reportedly borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Mulani around a year ago and promised to return it with interest within a month. However, despite several reminders, a source said, Shaikh did not return the money.

The Kashimira police said that Shaikh's body was found near a petrol pump on the highway in Kashimira on Thursday evening. After dumping the body , Mulani reported to work at Kandivli police station. Later, when the police found the body and found Mulani's link to the murder, they picked him up for questioning. He has confes sed to the murder, said the police. His brother is absconding.

Mulani is believed to have tortured Shaikh as injury marks were found on the body. "His hands and legs were tied when the body was found.His mouth was gagged and he was strangulated to death," said an official. The body has been sent for postmortem. A source said that Mulani had a stake in the chawls that have illegally come up in Mira-Bhayander and Dahisar. The police said that they are investigating Mulani's source of income as he is believed to have given several loans and earned interest.
