In This UP Village, "Dalits Will Be Fined Rs 5000 And Hit 50 Times If Seen Near A Tubewell"
A video in which a man can be seen announcing the said order using a drum, has now gone viral. The police has arrested two accused in the case.
Even though the Constitution of India gives equal rights to all the citizens, the ground reality seems to be far away from it. One such case has come to light from Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar. Just 22 kilometres from the city is Pawati Khurd village, where Dalits aren't allowed to go near the tubewell, reports News 18.
The controversial order
The former head of the village (Sarpanch) has allegedly ordered if a Dalit goes near a public tubewell, he or she will be beaten 50 times and a fine of Rs 5000 will imposed on them. A video in which an old man can be seen announcing the said order using a drum, has now gone viral. The police has arrested two accused in the case.

The Pawati Khurd village comes under the jurisdiction of Charthawal police station in Kutesra and has a population of about 7000 people. The village houses Muslim Tyagis, Hindu Tyagis and the Scheduled Caste community. The former head of the village Rajveer Tyagi ordered Dalits to keep away from public tubewell.
However, the announcement too was made by a Dalit from Valiki community, 50-year-old Kunwarpal, on the orders of Rajveer Tyagi.
Family background
Notably, Rajveer is the father of Vikrant alias Vicky Tyagi who was killed inside the courtroom in Muzaffarnagar in 2015 while he was attending a hearing in a case lodged against him. Vicky's two sons, Arpit Tyagi and Rakshit Tyagi are also serial offenders. There are several cases of murder and robbery lodged against both of them.
