The tourism interest in Lakshadweep has skyrocketed in the past few days and has reached a fever pitch with many including celebrities expressing their plans to visit the tropical island paradise.

However, given the formalities and limited number of tourists that are allowed there currently, you may have to wait for some time before you can visit the tropical paradise that comprises 36 coral islands.

But you should not feel disappointed as there are other islands in India that you can explore.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Located in the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a union territory consisting of 571 islands, of which only 37 are inhabited. Out of the 37 inhabited islands, tourists are only allowed to visit a few of them.

The most famous islands in Andaman and Nicobar are Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep), Ross Island (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island), Barren Island, and Viper Island.

The most famous beaches in Andaman and Nicobar include Elephant Beach, Radhanagar Beach, Vijaynagar Beach, Kalapathar Beach, Sitapur Beach, Lakshmanpur Beach, and Bharatpur Beach.

Andaman has a moderate temperature throughout the year, making it an ideal tourist location.

The easiest way to reach the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is by air. The Veer Savarkar Airport is an international airport located in the capital town of Port Blair. There are also shipping services to Andaman from various cities, including Kolkata, Chennai, and Kochi.

Majuli Island

Located on the Brahmaputra River in Assam, Majuli, which is spread across an area of 352 square kilometres, is the world's largest river island. In 2016, it became the first island to be made a district in India. Since 2004, Majuli has been part of the Tentative list of India for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Majuli is located 20 kilometres from Jorhat district. Tourists can take ferries to Majuli from the Nimati Ghat. October to February are considered the best time to visit Majuli.

Kakkathuruthu Island

Kakkathuruthu, which means crow island, is a small island located on the Vembanad Lake in Kerala's Alappuzha district. Kakkathuruthu, which is just 3 km long and 2 km wide, can be accessed through boats from the mainland.

Munroe Island

Located at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River in Kerala's Kollam district, Munroe Island is a group of eight small islets comprising a total area of about 13.4 km. It is named after General John Munro, a Scottish soldier who served as a British Resident of the States of Travancore between 1810 and 1819.

St. Mary's Islands

Also known as Coconut Island, St. Mary's Islands is a set of four islands located in the Arabian Sea and is a part of the Udipi district of Karnataka. It was named St. Mary's Island by Vasco da Gama in 1498 while he was on his way from Portugal to Calicut in Kerala.
