Omicron Pushes Delhi Back To Weekend Curfew Situation. Here's What Other States Have Announced
The Delhi Government on Tuesday imposed a weekend lockdown in the national capital, amid the surge in COVID-19 infections, triggered by the Omicron variant.
According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), government employees, barring those engaged in essential services, will be asked to work from home.
Private offices will remain open with 50 per cent capacity.
According to Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, DTC buses and Delhi metro will run with 100% capacity to avoid crowding at stops ¨¢nd stations. Passengers without masks will not be allowed entry.
The announcement was made on the day when Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari tested positive for COVID-19.
It is not just Delhi, restrictions, stopping short of a total lockdown are being imposed in most states across India as the third wave of COVID-19 is well underway in the country.
Haryana
In neighbouring Haryana, authorities on Saturday ordered the closure of cinema halls, multiplexes and sports complexes in five districts, including Gurugram and Faridabad, from January 2 to 12.
The other three districts where the restrictions will be applicable are Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat.
A night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am is also in place in the state.
Government and private offices, except for emergency/essential services have been advised to function with 50 per cent staff attendance.
Malls and markets will be allowed to open till 5 pm, while bars and restaurants will be allowed to operate at 50 per cent seating capacity.
Punjab
Punjab Govt imposes night curfew in municipal areas with certain exceptions Bars, cinemas halls, malls, restaurants, spas to operate at 50% capacity subject to staff being fully vaccinated.
Maharashtra
Maharashtra has been under night curfew and various other restrictions from December 24. The new guidelines restrict attendance at indoor weddings to 100 people and not more than 250 people or 25 per cent whichever is less in outdoor weddings.
On Tuesday, BMC said that there is no proposal at present to put any restrictions on suburban train travel in Mumbai.
Goa
Schools and colleges in Goa have been closed for physical sessions till January 26. In the wake of a rise in COVID-19 cases in the coastal state, the Goa government on Monday imposed a night curfew in the state. The curfew will be in place from 11 pm to 6 am until further orders.
Karnataka
A night curfew is in place in Karnataka from 10 pm to 5 am till January 7. This, however, is likely to be extended further. There are also reports that the government may impose a weekend curfew, provided health experts and the cabinet endorse the plan. On Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai ruled out a lockdown in the state.
Karnataka has stepped-up vigil at its borders with Maharashtra which is leading the tally. Only those who have been double vaccinated and have RT-PCR test reports are being allowed to enter the state.
Kerala
The night curfew, which was imposed in Kerala to curb the Covid-29 spread during New Year gatherings, from December 30 to January 2 has not been extended. The curfew was in place from 10 pm to 5 am.
Telangana
Telangana government on Monday declared holidays for schools, colleges and other educational institutions from January 8-16, 2022, as the state witnessed a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases.
West Bengal
West Bengal government on Monday eased restrictions on local trains in Kolkata. As per latest order issued by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government, local trains in state¡¯s capital will be allowed to operate with 50 per cent capacity till 10 pm, instead of shutting operations at 7 pm, as directed earlier.
West Bengal State Election Commission announced that no roadshows or bike rallies would be allowed during campaigning of upcoming municipal polls in the state.
Rajasthan
The Rajasthan government on Sunday capped the number of people attending political and other rallies, dharnas, fairs and weddings at 100 and ordered closure of schools in Jaipur city for classes 1 to 8.
A maximum of 100 people will be allowed in marriage functions, public, political, social or educational meetings and processions, dharnas, fairs and such events.
Domestic travellers arriving in Rajasthan will have to produce double vaccine certificates or RT-PCR negative test reports not older than 72 hours.
Jharkhand
In Jharkhand, the government said that all stadiums, parks, gyms will remain closed till further order.
All stadiums, parks, gyms, swimming pools, tourist destinations will remain closed till further order. Educational institutions will also remain shut till further orders, but official work will be allowed with 50 per cent capacity.
A maximum of 100 people are allowed in gatherings for weddings and funerals. Markets will be shut down at 8 pm. Chemist shops, restaurants and bars are allowed to remain open. Religious places will remain open. There is no night curfew as of now.
Bihar
Bihar government is seriously contemplating imposing fresh restrictions in the state.
The fresh restrictions may come into effect from January 6, as the existing guidelines for Covid-19, as decided by the state¡¯s high-powered crisis management group (CMG), is effective till January 5.
Uttarakhand
A night curfew has been in place across Uttarakhand since December 31. The night curfew is from 11 pm to 5 am till further orders
Essential services like health, movement of vehicles carrying health personnel, ambulances, postal services have been exempted from the ambit of the curfew.
Meghalaya
Meghalaya government on Monday decided to re-impose restrictions on holding of public gatherings, re-enforcing night curfew and regulation on movement of private vehicles from January 5.
Apart from the double vaccination, people from outside who are entering the state would require to produce an RT-PCR negative test report conducted within 72 hours and if not, they would need to be tested at the entry point to Meghalaya.
