On Mauni Amavasya, Millions Take Holy Dip At Prayagraj Kumbh Mela's Second Shahi Snan
Mauni Amavasya is a new moon day and this year it falls on a Monday. According to tradition it was this day sage Rishabh Dev ended his long vow of silence and took bath in the holy waters. It is also the biggest of the three sacred baths which the devotees undertake during the 50-day long event.
Millions from across the country and globe assembled at the Sangam - the confluence of three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati on Monday on the occasion of "Mauni Amavasya" at the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayag Raj.
According to officials, at least 3 crore devotees are expected to take a holy dip in the third official bathing and second ¡®shahi snan¡¯ on Monday.

The first Shahi Snan of the Kumbh Mela this year was on January 15, on the day of Makar Sankranti. The final snan will happen on February 10, on the occasion of Basant Panchmi.
The 50-day-long Kumbh Mela which is the largest religious gathering anywhere in the world comes to a close on March 4.
