In a shocking incident, a veterinary doctor of Bihar's Begusarai district was allegedly kidnapped and forcibly married off.
The incident came to light on Tuesday after the family of veterinary doctor Satyam Kumar Jha, a native of Pidhauli village in Begusarai was sent a video of him getting married to a girl.
According to the family, Jha was called by someone on Monday afternoon, claiming to attend a cattle.
However, he did not return, even late after which the family filed a police complaint.
Family shocked by video of son getting married
"When Satyam did not returned to home till the evening, we started searching for him. He didn't even returned in the night. On Tuesday morning, a video clip came on my cell phone. When we opened the clip my son was sitting with a girl and the marriage was underway," said Subodh Kumar Jha, the father of the Veterinary doctor.
In the video, which has since gone viral on social media, Jha can be seen sitting on the floor, dressed up like a groom, while music is played in the background.
Some people are also seen making preparations for what appears to be the wedding ceremony.
"We have filed a written complaint, naming the accused, in this regard with the Teghra police station," Jha said.
Police investigating the case
"The Father of the veterinarian had given a written complaint to the police station. We've asked the SHO and other officials to conduct an investigation into the matter. Strict actions will be taken," Yogendra Kumar, SP, Begusarai said.
"We have received a complaint related to Pakadwa marriage (kidnapping for marriage). The investigation is underway with all angles. The case of love affairs cannot be ruled out," said SHO of Teghra police station.
Pakadwa Vivah
While it might sound strange for most people outside, groom kidnapping is not anything new in Bihar, especially in districts such as Lakhisarai, Jamui, Munger, Patna, Begusarai, Nalanda, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Banka.
It is called Pakadwa Vivah, or Jabariya Vivah where often the family of a girl abducts a boy of marriable age from a well to do family to get their married.
Often in such cases, the groom is forced to tie the knot at gun point and is locked up for days to ensure that he doesn't flee.
Past cases of Pakadwa Vivah
In 2018 a similar incident had grabbed national headlines after Vinod Kumar, an engineer who was working as a junior manager at Bokaro Steel Plant was abducted and was forced to marry a woman who at gun point.
