Parents Lock Up Teachers After They Kept Mid-Day Meal's Chicken Leg Pieces For Themselves
A group of teachers at the Amriti Colony Primary School in the Englishbazar area of Malda allegedly kept the leg pieces and other meaty portions of the chicken allocated to mid-day meals for themselves. They only served parts like the neck, stomach, and liver to the students. However, this did not go down well with the parents after some students complained about the teachers on Wednesday.
Undoubtedly, everyone loves a chicken leg piece and it is okay to fight for one if needed. But if the said fight is between students and teachers, it is expected to get ugly.
That is precisely what happened in a school in the Malda district of West Bengal.
Angry parents lock teachers up
A group of teachers at the Amriti Colony Primary School in the Englishbazar area of Malda allegedly kept the leg pieces and other meaty portions of the chicken allocated to mid-day meals for themselves. They only served parts like the neck, stomach, and liver to the students.
However, this did not go down well with the parents after some students complained about the teachers on Wednesday.
So on Thursday, a group of parents went to the school and confronted the teachers.
Following an argument, the parents allegedly locked some six teachers inside a classroom for over four hours.
They were released only after the local police intervened.
Students served leftover chicken pieces
The parents alleged that on the days chicken was on the menu, the teachers took the good pieces of chicken and prepared them separately and the leftover was served to the students.
They further claimed that the quality of the food served to the students was poor and accused the teachers of misappropriating the grains meant for mid-day meals.
Following the controversy, an investigation has been launched into the incident.
Chicken introduced in January
In January, the West Bengal government introduced chicken and seasonal fruits on the menu of mid-day meals for students.
Before the pandemic, the government had fixed the menu in the state schools and added fish or egg twice a week with boiled rice, soyabean and vegetables served on the other days.
Over 11.6 million students enrolled at state-run schools get midday meals across the state. In January, the government allocated Rs 372 crore to provide additional nutrition to the school students till April 23.
